Of route, there’s nothing that beats an amazing bowl of French onion soup. The onions and broth is delicious sufficient however add the bread and cheese and well…it’s pretty a good deal the first-class soup ever!

French Onion Soup Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 large sweet onions - sliced
  • 1 cup crumbled bacon
  • 4 chicken bullion cubes
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp course ground garlic salt
  • 1 tsp seasoned salt
  • 8 slices swiss cheese
  • 1 package of crusty sliced bread/crostini

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Melt butter in heavy bottomed roaster or pot and add sliced onions.
  2. Sprinkle onions with garlic salt and seasoned pepper, then saute until lightly caramelized.
  3. Turn heat to low, stir in brown sugar and bacon and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Add water and and bullion cubes and turn heat to medium, stirring occasionally until bullion cubes dissolve.
  5. Let soup simmer for 15 minutes then slowly stir in flour to thicken broth.
  6. Let soup simmer over low heat for 10 more minutes.
  7. Place soup bowls onto a study cookie sheet covered in parchment paper and ladle soup into bowls.
  8. Top with one or two slices of crusty bread and 2-3 slices of swiss cheese, then broil in oven until cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.
  9. Serve hot.
