Of route, there’s nothing that beats an amazing bowl of French onion soup. The onions and broth is delicious sufficient however add the bread and cheese and well…it’s pretty a good deal the first-class soup ever!

INGREDIENTS:
- 6 large sweet onions - sliced
- 1 cup crumbled bacon
- 4 chicken bullion cubes
- 4 cups water
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp flour
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp course ground garlic salt
- 1 tsp seasoned salt
- 8 slices swiss cheese
- 1 package of crusty sliced bread/crostini
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Melt butter in heavy bottomed roaster or pot and add sliced onions.
- Sprinkle onions with garlic salt and seasoned pepper, then saute until lightly caramelized.
- Turn heat to low, stir in brown sugar and bacon and let simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add water and and bullion cubes and turn heat to medium, stirring occasionally until bullion cubes dissolve.
- Let soup simmer for 15 minutes then slowly stir in flour to thicken broth.
- Let soup simmer over low heat for 10 more minutes.
- Place soup bowls onto a study cookie sheet covered in parchment paper and ladle soup into bowls.
- Top with one or two slices of crusty bread and 2-3 slices of swiss cheese, then broil in oven until cheese is bubbly and golden brown on top.
- Serve hot.
